HOW DO WE PRODUCE

FRESH FOODS

Hydroponic farming

Producing these fresh products in the UAE is definitely not easy. Some of them are not a big challenge because they are adapted to warm climates. Others require significant weather changes to grow appropriately. Each crop has special needs, particular nutrients, and a unique space to grow.

In Wafra, we have a separate section for each plant in our indoor farms. Each space is adapted to the particular needs of the crop, and we use different farming technologies to grow our fresh foods naturally:

Hydroponic farming

This technique uses a nutrient-rich solution instead of soil to grow plants. Thus, we don't actually need soil, and the plant stays fresh for a longer time. And this technique requires less water than the traditional farming

Vertical farming

A revolutionary technique that allows cultivation in stacked layers to save space and optimize production.

Depending on the crop, we can use one of these methods or a combination to obtain the best results. It all comes down to improving production without compromising quality and using our available resources to offer the healthiest fruits and vegetables, from the farm to your table.

WAFRA FARMS

The UAE has a desert climate that is very hot in summers and still warm in winter. The humidity in some areas of the country makes heat very difficult to handle, and the annual precipitation is around 4 inches, mostly in the winter months. These conditions make farming in the UAE complicated, except for a few crops that grow in warm climates.

In Wafra farms, we take care of our crops in indoor farms that combine different technologies to make growing efficient all year long. We do not use any chemical to accelerate growth besides nutrients for the soil, and we won't apply any insecticide or pesticide because we grow our crops in carefully controlled environments.

Do you want to know a bit more about our farming techniques? Depending on the crop, we can use one of these:

This technique uses a nutrient-rich solution instead of soil to grow plants. It is a clean and efficient type of farming in the absence of soil. Water provides oxygen, and nutrients in the water are enough to make it grow. It uses minimal space and features accelerated growth and uses less water.

Hydroponic farming works by controlling the environment, nutrients, and pH of the water and adapting everything for each crop. With hydroponics, we learn about each plant’s needs and provide exactly what they need whenever they need it. Hydroponic farming requires constant monitoring to ensure that the plant needs are met and no factors impact its healthy growth.
This technique uses stacked layers to grow farming vegetables on different surfaces instead of only one. For this reason, we have vertical crops that look like a building instead of a horizontal crop that extends to the horizon. This saves a lot of space and allows farms to be placed on large structures.

Vertical farming works by creating a tower-like structure made of stacked layers with enough space for each crop to grow. After that, natural and artificial lights are considered to maintain the best illumination level. This technique can be used in combination with hydroponic growing to avoid using soil at each structure level.
